"The expansion of the railway infrastructure to the main Polish ports of Gdansk and Gdynia is progressing according to schedule."
The investment, worth more than PLN 2.6 billion, is expected to be ready by the end of 2021. The PKP PLK project 'Improvement of the infrastructure of railway access to the port of Gdańsk' involves, among other things, the reconstruction of more than 70 km of track, 13 level crossings and pedestrian crossings and the replacement of 221 switches. Engineering structures will be rebuilt: 3 bridges, 2 viaducts and 18 culverts. As part of the "Improvement of rail access to the sea port in Gdynia" investment, 115 km of tracks will be rebuilt and access to the port gates will be electrified. The reconstruction will also include 13 km of roads, a railway bridge and 2 railway-road crossings. Communication will be facilitated, among other things, by the construction of two railway viaducts. The investments by PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe at the gates of the Tricity ports mean that more goods will be transported faster. Longer and heavier, even 740-metre-long freight trains will be able to arrive. Thanks to the new rail traffic control system equipment, freight transport will be more efficient and safer. The project is also important for reducing Co2 emissions.
